Motivation

In Singapore, the old age support ratio will drop from 4:1 today to 1:1 in 2050. The demand to ensure seniors are able to lead a risk-free life is greater than ever. Organisations such as the Senior Activity Centres would need an efficient way to monitor and provide aid to these elderlies and as such, our team aims to provide an innovative system that allows care and aid to be given to all seniors given the limited human resource.

Project Description

Our unobtrusive smart monitoring system aims to provide caregivers better insights regarding the elderly through health vitals and activity levels data collected 24/7. Emergencies and potentially alarming behaviours are quickly detected, and caregivers promptly notified. This enhanced communication gateway improves the efficiency and quality of healthcare provided in existing systems.

Activity Monitoring

BlankET is able to monitor seniors’ time spent in each room, and their overall activity levels. This helps caregivers understand seniors better and which areas more attention is required.

Emergency Detection

BlankET’s unobtrusive sensors are capable of detecting erratic heart rates, presence of dangerous gasses and falls anywhere in the house, including the toilet.

Contactless Heart Rate Monitoring

While smart home monitoring for seniors is not the latest solution, BlankET offers contactless heart rate monitoring, something no other smart home is able to do.

Mobile Device Application

Elderly Tablet

The Elderly Tablet user interface was made to be as simple and visible as possible for the elderlies. The tablet serves to keep the elderlies connected with their friends and seek assistance from their caregiver through voice or video call function. The other main function of the tablet would be to confirm the health status of the elderly if the system detects that the elderly might need aid, emergency or otherwise.

Caregiver Application

Emergency and Potential Risk Cases

The default main page of the application for the caregiver is to notify the user of emergency or potential risk cases that are detected by the system. Caregivers are notified when the system detects that an intervention or aid is needed immediately. They are able to accept any one case and the details they need to administer aid could be viewed easily by clicking the “ACCEPTED” or the  “View emergency case details” button.

Mass Monitoring Mode

The purpose of this page is for the caregiver to check on the individual elderlies remotely at a large scale. Individual elderlies are color coded based on the detected health status to ease this process. Each individual elderly person has their own profile page where important information such as their vitals and location within the house are stated. Remarks could also be added by the caregivers as they see fit. Caregivers are also given the function to call the elderlies to check up on them and provide them with social care.

Caregiver Profile Page

Individual caregivers using the application are able to edit their information, password, username and profile photo for the system on this page. In addition, a recorded “work history” is also added so that the caregiver could keep track of their work with the elderly.
